William Dean “Bill” Moffett, 62, of Decatur, IL passed away on Tuesday (June 19, 2012) at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (June 23, 2012) at Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday. The family has requested casual attire for Bill’s services. Burial will be in Harristown Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Veterans Assistance Commission of Macon County or Hidden Valley Community Church.

Mr. Moffett was born on October 15, 1949 in Decatur, IL, the son of William E. and Dorothy (Plunkett) Moffett. Bill was a machinist at Cash Valve for 20 years, truck driver for Transport Services and Bulkmatic then later retired from Macon County Health Department. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1967-1971 during the Vietnam War. Bill was a member of Hidden Valley Community Church and enjoyed riding motorcycles, watching movies and most of all playing with his grandchildren. He married Peggy (Tuggle) Havener on July 2, 1988.

Surviving is his wife: Peggy Moffett of Decatur, IL; children: Kirk (Edna) Moffett of Decatur, IL, Troy (Michelle) Moffett of Oswego, IL, Abby (Ben) Steele of Decatur, IL, Dawn (Jason) Oakleaf of Decatur, IL, Jeromy Havener of Decatur, IL; sister: Helen (Neal) Wright of Decatur, IL; grandchildren: Alex and Jake Oakleaf, Tyler Havener, Allie Moffett, Marissa and Amelia Moffett, Maren and Elliet Steele.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Harristown Fire Department and to the Veterans Assistance Commission of Macon County.

Bill will be remembered by his family as Willy, Billy Dean and Papa Bill.

I believe that William is the father of a young man - Troy - who worked with me many years ago at Parkway Hyundai. back in '94.   If so, my sympathies go out to you and your family.  God Bless.

I was so sorry to see that Bill passed away.  He always made me laugh at work and he was so friendly.  I know that you and the rest of the family will miss him greatly but always remember the good times and that Bill is looking after each and every one of his family.

Our class from Niantic Harristown HIgh School is having our 45th class reunion on 07/21/12 at the township shed in Harristown.  We will miss having Bill but will say a special prayer for the family.  My husband and i used to live in Bill's neighborhood in the late 1970's and would visit occasionally.   Our prayers go out to Peggy and his children.  God Bless
